SALLY LUNN BREAD (Non-Yeast Version)


1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder

Cream butter and sugar together; add the beaten eggs. Add the milk alternately with the sifted dry ingredients. Pour into 2 buttered pie pans. Bake at 450 degrees for 20 minutes. Light as a feather and fit for a king!

Maddox (Batter) Rolls



Maddox (Batter) Rolls

1 T active dry yeast
¼ C warm water
¼ C sugar
1/3 C shortening
1 t salt
3/4 C scalded milk
½ C cold water
2 eggs, beaten
3½ C flour

Dissolve yeast in ¼ C warm water. Combine with sugar, shortening and salt. Add scalded milk, cold water and beaten eggs. Stir in dissolved yeast. Add flour. Mix well. Batter will be soft! Cover and let rise in warm place 45-60 minutes. Stir down. Spoon into greased muffin tins, filling half full. Cover and let rise 45-60 minutes.

Bake at 400° for 15-20 minutes or until lightly browned. Makes 18 rolls.

Best Breadmaker Wheat Bread



1 1/4 C Warm Water
1 T oil
1 T vinegar
1 t salt

Combine ingredients in breadmaker.

Add:

2 3/4 C whole wheat flour
1 T yeast
1/3 C sugar
1/4 C wheat gluten
2 T instant dry milk
1/4 C potato flakes

Bake as per your breadmaker instructions.

Jan's Banana Bread

Sour Cream Banana Bread

1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs, beaten
3-4 ripe bananas, mashed
2 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
Optional - 1 cup milk chocolate chips and/or chopped pecans

Mix sugar and sour cream.  Add beaten eggs and mix.  Sift dry ingredients together into mix.  Add vanilla and options, chips, nuts.  Add mashed bananas. Pour batter into 2 lightly greased loaf pans.  Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.  For mini loaf pans: 45 minutes.  Let cool, then slice.

Pumpkin Bread

(Like better than Harvest Loaf)

2/3 c shortening
2 2/3 c sugar
4 eggs
1 lb pumpkin
2/3 c water
1 t clove
3 1/3 c flour
2 t soda
1 1/2 t salt
1 t cinnamon
1 1/2 t powder
choco chips

70 minutes @ 350*

Mom's Banana Bread (aka Betty Crocker)




1 ¼ C sugar
½ C butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs
1 ½ C mashed ripe bananas (3-4 medium)
½ C buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 ½ C gold medal all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 C chopped nuts (optional)



  1. Heat oven to 350° F. Grease bottoms only of 2 loaf pans.

  2. Mix sugar and butter in large bowl. Stir in eggs until well blended. Add bananas, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt just until moistened. Stir in nuts. Pour into pans.

  3. Bake loaves about 1 hour - until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Whit's Wheat Bread Take II

In breadmaker pan put:

2/3 C evaporated milk
2/3 C water
1 T oil
1 t salt

Add

2 C whole wheat flour
1 C white flour
2 T wheat gluten
1 T brown sugar
1 t rapid rise yeast

Bake on white bread 1.5 lb setting.

Pumpkin Bread

2 2/3 cups sugar
2/3 cup oil
4 eggs
2 cups canned pumpkin
2/3 cup water
3 cups flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 cup walnuts, optional or
1 cup chocolate chips, optional


Mix all of the ingredients together in order given. Pour batter into 2 large or 4 small loaf pans. Bake at 350 for 1 hour for big pans or 40 minutes for small pans.

Whit's Delicious Garlic Herb Breadmaker Bread

Put into breadmaker:

1 1/4 C water
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 cloves minced garlic

Cover completely with:

3 1/4 C White Flour
1 T butter (cut up cold butter and put on the flour)
2 T sugar
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoon yeast

(can substitute with larger quantities of fresh herbs)

Bake on white bread, light crust setting.

Whit's Wheat Breadmaker Bread

Put into machine:

3/4 C Water
1/4 C Milk (evaporated is best)
1/4 C oil (vegetable or olive)
2 Tablespoons molasses
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Cover water completely with:

2 C whole wheat flour (I grind the wheat and then sift)
1 C white flour
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons yeast

Bake on whole wheat, light crust setting.

Whit's White Breadmaker Bread

(Make sure you follow your breadmaker instructions because they could vary from this order)

Put into the machine:

3/4 C Water
1/2 C Evaporated milk (can sub. regular milk)
1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Cover water completely with:

3 C White Flour (not bread flour)
3 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons cold butter cut up
1 1/2 teaspoons yeast

Bake on white bread light crust setting.

Crusty Soup Bread Bowls

Crusty Soup Bread Bowls (Makes 4 bowls)

2 Tbsp yeast
2 c warm water
1 Tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
5 c flour
cornmeal

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt and 3 cups of flour. Beat 3 minutes, gradually adding remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl and cover. Let rise until it doubles in size. Punch down and dived into 4 pieces. Form each piece into a smooth ball and place on cookie sheet that has been sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover and let rise until it has doubled in size. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Cool. Cut off tops and scoop out bread. Use scooped bread for dipping.
